Jeff's teammates at work decided to have an offsite at Bintan over the weekend. I got to come hang out after they did all their work stuff, and although I was only there for a day and a half, it was very enjoyable. The ferry ride over was about an hour long. We stayed in a villa in Bintan Lagoon Resort (it came with a golf cart, or as they referred to it, a buggy). The weekend was about relaxing, not doing. We didn't have time to really venture out of the resort area besides going to dinner in Pasar Oleh-Oleh; it's not really a town but more like a bunch of little huts with shops and restaurants.
Highlights of the weekend included driving a golf cart with a steering wheel on the left side (I almost forgot what that felt like), stargazing with Jeff and his boss on the pool deck using Google Sky Map, swimming in our own pool, and watching Jeff attempt to open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew. The weekend brought back memories of our college days in Santa Barbara. Lots of fun, lots of sun.
By the way, if you don't have Sky Map on your phone, you should download it if you can. The sky from Bintan is absolutely crystal clear and makes for perfect stargazing. All you do is hold your phone up to the sky and it tells you what stars you're looking at. We saw Jupiter and Uranus from the comfort of our own deck chairs.
P.S. It's October already?!
