Happy Deepavali!

11/4/10

Tomorrow is Deepavali, the festival of lights. It is a public holiday here in Singapore. Little India has been adorned with beautiful decorations and lights in preparation for this holiday for quite some time now. This past weekend, Jeff and I met up with some friends who were in town and we went to Little India.
The Hindu goddess Lakshmi on the street decor of Serangoon Road.
A vendor making and selling beautiful garlands.
Lanterns for sale at the Little India Arcade.
I got a henna painting on my hand. I forgot to take a picture when it was fresh and dark. It's almost completely faded now.

I could spend all day in Little India; it is a complete sensory experience every time I go. The colors, the sounds, the smells, the textures, and the people all make it a truly vibrant area of Singapore.

Happy Deepavali!

  1. Thanks, I can't wait to wear it in San Jose where people actually know what it means.
